Geoff joined the CBST staff as the head coach in August 2022 with decades of aquatics experience under his belt. Geoff grew up in New Zealand, where he rose to an elite level in both pool and open water swimming. After retiring from the New Zealand Fire Service and traveling to over 75 countries, Geoff arrived in Boulder, CO, in the summer of 2012 to pursue a triathlon career. He soon met his future wife and settled in the US. Geoff naturally progressed through various roles in aquatics over the next decade, including coaching high school teams and a summer swim league; establishing a successful swim clinic and private coaching business which included beginner youths through Olympic trialists, national team members, professional triathletes, and masters swimmers; obtaining his Certified Pool Operator license and managing two private club pools and their programs; and founding an open water swim race series, the Mountain Swim Series, which continues to grow. Through his successful private swim coaching business, team coaching, and swimming competitively around the world, Geoff has picked up numerous skills and coaching techniques from great coaches and fellow athletes with whom he has had the opportunity to train, work, and observe. He is known for focusing heavily on technique and delivering challenging swim sets to everyone he works with. Geoff adapts training to each individual athlete, even when working in a team/group situation – whether it’s through dry land workouts or skills & drills.
