What are dual meets?
A dual meet is a meet in which two teams compete against each other to determine a winner. Swimmers/divers are also competing to improve their times/scores. Typically, there are six or seven dual meets each SAL season (five “regular season” meets and one or two “division/conference championship” meets). The boys team swims at one location while the girls team swims at another location (i.e., one of our teams is home and one is away for any given Saturday dual meet). Divers typically compete together at one pool or the other. Diving dual meets are often on Friday nights instead of Saturdays (other days of the week are possible for dive meets, but Friday and Saturday are most common).
What are invitational meets?
Invitational meets are individual competitions. Swimmers must sign-up and pay for these meets. All team members are invited to participate in these meets. Invitationals are an opportunity to swim the events of your choice at a meet. These meets are extra and are entirely OPTIONAL. It is assumed that any swimmer who signs up for an invitational meet can provide a volunteer at the meet. Diving invitationals are less common, but are sometimes available.
